Review Murder Midst The Diamonds
Oh, I just adored Murder Midst the Diamonds! Ann Sutton has once again crafted a delightful escape into the glamorous and perilous world of 1920s London. Picking up right where we left off with Dodo and Rupert, the book throws us headfirst into the whirlwind of wedding planning – and murder, of course! It’s a testament to Sutton’s skill that she manages to balance the thrilling mystery with the charming romance so seamlessly. The tension ratchets up beautifully, keeping me guessing until the very end. I never saw the culprit coming, which is always a mark of a truly well-written mystery.
What I particularly loved was the way Sutton weaves in the details of the era. The descriptions of the glittering jewelry, the lavish parties, and the stylish clothing brought the roaring twenties to life so vividly. It's easy to imagine yourself strolling along with Dodo and Rupert through the bustling streets of London, attending high society events, and feeling the thrill of the chase. The atmosphere is simply intoxicating!
Beyond the compelling plot, the characters are what truly make this series shine. Dodo Dorchester is such a captivating heroine; independent, intelligent, and endearingly clumsy at times. She's not your typical damsel in distress, and her relationship with Rupert is both heartwarming and realistic. Their banter is witty and charming, their affection palpable, and seeing their relationship blossom amidst the chaos adds a wonderful layer of depth to the story. Even the supporting characters are richly drawn and memorable, each with their own secrets and motives, contributing to the intricate web of suspects.
While the mystery itself kept me on the edge of my seat, I also appreciated the subtle development of Rupert's character. We see him stepping up and becoming more involved in Dodo's investigations, showing a significant growth from previous books. And I wholeheartedly agree with other readers – I’m hoping to see more of Billy in future installments! His presence always adds a welcome dose of humour and heart.
However, I do want to briefly touch on a couple of points raised by other readers concerning minor historical inaccuracies. While these minor inconsistencies didn't detract significantly from my overall enjoyment, it is something the author or editor might want to consider for future editions. The occasional slip in detail, though, is easily forgiven considering the overall charm and captivating nature of the story.
Overall, Murder Midst the Diamonds is a highly recommended read for fans of cozy mysteries, historical fiction, and witty romance. If you’re looking for a captivating story with well-developed characters, a thrilling plot, and a healthy dose of charm, then this book is absolutely for you. It's the perfect blend of danger, romance, and 1920s glamour that leaves you wanting more. I eagerly anticipate the next installment in Dodo and Rupert's adventures!
